Non-Organic Produce That ADD/ADHD Can Eat

In today’s declining economy eating organic may not be an option for your family. One of the many health benefits of organic produce is that they are free of pesticides. This poison has a negative effect on ADD/ADHD because it can heighten their brain’s sensitivity to food allergies and it can cause neurological problems. So let’s discuss some of your options. According to the EWG (Environmental Working Group) they have put together two lists, produce with the highest and lowest amount of pesticides (www.foodnews.org).

Here are the top 15 produces when ingested contain less than 2 pesticides daily:

1. Onion

2. Avocado

3. Sweet Corn

4. Pineapples

5. Mango

6. Asparagus

7. Sweet Peas

8. Kiwi

9. Cabbage

10. Eggplant

11. Papaya

12. Watermelon

13. Broccoli

14. Tomato

15. Sweet Potato

Here are the top 12 produces when ingested contain 10 pesticides daily (Buy Organic):

1. Peach

2. Apple

3. Bell Pepper

4. Celery

5. Nectarine

6. Strawberries

7. Cherries

8. Kale

9. Lettuce

10. Grapes (Imported)

11. Carrot

12. Pear

Clearly you can understand why these 12 produces should be bought organic, BUT since money is a factor, here’s your second option. On my website under “Natural Antibiotics,” I have listed Nutribiotic GSE Organic Liquid Concentrate Grapefruit Seed Extract. It comes in a plastic bottle ranging from 2-4oz. This little bottle with last you FOREVER! You can buy this over the Internet or health food store. It will be cheaper if you buy online. Every household in my opinion should always have a bottle of GSE and Colloidal Silver. I’ll blog another day about the wide range benefits of this natural antibiotic.

What you need to know about GSE,is that by adding 30 drops of NutriBiotic GSE in a FULL sink of water and soaking produce (veggies, fruits, meats, poultry) for about 2-5 mins, it will kill and clean off all parasites, dust mites, insecticides, pesticides, etc.. You can also spray GSE onto produce. Add 20 drops of NutriBiotic GSE to a 32oz pump sprayer filled with water. Spray on any produce and rinse if desired.

Corn A Major Food/Brain Allergy for ADD/ADHD

This is a comment that was sent to me and I’m so excited to post this on my blog:

I was diagnosed with A.D.D. (A.D.H.D) when I was 6 in 1984. About a decade ago I tried a self directed elimination diet after I had returned from living in Europe: where my symptoms of hyperactivity had completely disappeared. It took me 5 years, but I finally realized that I was allergic to CORN, including HFCS, corn syrup and all the other 1,200 derivatives of corn that are in 80% of our US foods. This allergy triggered my A.D.H.D. I felt good in Europe (and since in Canada) because they use wheat not corn in most their traditional foods. It took me so long to figure this out in the US, because in the ingredient lists of most products corn can be called, gluten, dextrose, and is used to make food coloring and food additives…etc.. etc..

The other interesting parallel that I discovered is that after the US initiated its trade embargo with Cuba in the mid-70s our supply of cheap cane sugar was cut-off and manufacturers had to find another source of sweetener. It was at this point that the corn suppliers stepped in and corn has been a major additive of our foods since. This addition of corn to our foods in non-traditional ways parallels exactly the increase in diagnosis of disruptive children with A.D.H.D. in the late 70s and early 80s. So my advice to people with A.D.H.D, take a week off corn (and A.D.H.D. medications)… Make your own food from scratch and just see if this makes a difference in your life. I can feel the difference with in 2 or 3 days.

Good references for learning about corn in US food are the book “The Omnivores Dilemma” and the new documentary “King Corn”.

Jason

I’m so glad Jason shared his personal experience and knowledge with me! It pains me to see children as young as 3 years old being put on ADD/ADHD medication when most of these children could have taken a $150 Food Allergy Test or do a Heavy Metal cleanse. I feel like a broken record when I mention in most of my blogs or e-mails that if you are a parent of a child that may have ADD/ADHD please go take:

1. Heavy Metal Test

2. Neurotransmitter Test

3. Fatty Acid Test

4. Food Allergy Test

5. Intracellular Test (optional)

These are the FIRST steps I would have taken had I known about these tests. Do you think ADD/ADHD medication cure the root of your problem? By taking these tests you begin to indentify the core of the problem versus treating the symptoms. As you can see Jason testimony is a great example of how food allergies contribute to hyperactivity. Like Jason we did an elimination diet too because like I said we were unaware of this test. This is a method of removing specific foods or chemicals from your diet for a specific period of time before reintroducing them and noting the effects in a journal or diary. Charlie’s kryptonite are dairy and especially artifical chemicals (MSG, and artificial colors, dyes, and preservatives). Not one single family practitioner, pediatrician, or psychiatrist mention this option to us. Instead they were all adamant that ADD/ADHD medication was the only option that would work. These test would have shaved off a year of trail and error for us.

Here’s a great example of finding the “Root” of the problem: My husband’s client was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome about 10 years ago. Her health was getting worse and worse as time went on. I had mention many times go get a Food Allergy Test done. But she was someone that believed whatever her doctor told her to do and an food allergy test sounded silly to him. But one day she was at the Health Store and they had a licensed pharmacist on staff that had a Bio-Feedback machine. She took this as a sign and decided to take this test. She sat for 1 hr with her hands on these hand-shaped things that are attached to the computer. It tells you what your levels are and your sensitivities to food. Mold and corn were her kryptonite. So she went home and pulled ANYTHING corn out of her diet. And then she realized what I had been telling her for months, HFCS is in everything. Like Jason within 3 days of eliminating corn from her diet, her fatigue was nearly gone.

Food/brain allergies have different affects on different individuals. Some individual can become hyperactive or depressed. Jason mention that ”corn can be used for food coloring and food additives.” Great point and another reason why you must also pull the artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives from your diet. Another major point that stood out about my husband’s client Bio-feed back results, was her sensitivity to mold as well. Rae Ann (Biometics Distributor) had mention to me about a book called “The Fungal Link by Doug Kaufman.” http://www.know-the-cause.com/Shows/tabid/54/Default.aspx Kaugman talks about how corn and peanuts get moldy because of the way they are grown and stored. So when someone has a sensitivity to corn products, they are also having problems with the mold in the corn too. Food allergies will lead to yeast overgrowth and constant inflammation. This overgrowth will develop into fungus and mold causing chaos in your brain and body chemistry. This is a must read book!!!

Stevia Is Best Substitute for Refined Sugar & HFCS

Parents tell me one of the hardest part of changing their child’s diet is pulling the bad sugar from their diet since it is virtually in everything. This is completely understandable since sugar is highly additive. Just a day off of sugar will prompt mood swings, headaches, and foggy thinking. And artificial sweeteners like Aspartame and Sucralose are worse! Neither are a good substitute for bad sugars. This is really bad stuff especially since ADD/ADHD do not detox well. Sugar was the bane of Charlie’s health and mood swings. The first thing we did was immediately start Charlie on Grapefruit seed extract and a probiotic. At first 5 drops GSE once a day with probiotic before bed. Then we worked up to GSE 15 drops 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks and 2 probiotics a day. We never took probiotic with GSE.Next we ordered Stevia extract both liquid and powder form. This stuff is like magic! Charlie loved it and it made this transition effortless. He didn’t turn into a sugar junkie looking for his next snicker bar fix. For instance, instead of purchasing pre-packaged commercial flavored oatmeal that you get at the grocery store, here’s a healthy organic alternative found in the health selection or at Whole food Grocery Stores:

Cinnamon Oatmeal

Organic oatmeal flakes that either comes in a bag or from a dispenser that you empty into your plastic bad

Organic ground cinnamon (or the flavor you desire)

Organic nuts of your choice (almonds, soy, pecans, walnuts)

Unsweetened soy or rice milk (always heat milk on stove versus microwave- it kills everything including the nutrients)

*Sprinkle stevia powder as desired to make it sweet. (remember you don’t need much!)

*1tbsp Smart Butter

*Sometimes on special occasions we even sprinkle Unsweetened, or semi sweetened Carob Vegan Chocolate chips.

Stevia is the world’s only all herbal natural sweetener with zero calories, zero carbohydrates, zero gylcemic index, and sucralose/aspartame free. It comes from a shrub that is native to Paraguay called stevia rebaundiana. It tastes a little like licorice and is sweeter than sucrose. There are no side effects or dangers associated with Stevia. In the United States, our government for some unknown reason says Stevia is not considered a sweetener, so it’s not included on any product label as a sweetener. But in the rest of the world, Stevia is known as the best natural sweetener on the market today.

When selecting Stevia always go with raw rather than bleached and select Stevia extract versus Stevia. It doesn’t take much to sweeten your drinks, smoothie, desserts, etc… Remember when it comes to this sweetener, LESS IS ALWAYS BETTER. Too much will leave your drinks tasting bitter and gross. Stevia can be put in everything. The possibilities are endless!!! You can even cook with it. Couple of things to keep in mind; NEVER cook over 400 F and for every 1 cup substitute 1 tsp stevia extract. Anytime you replace a recipe with stevia there should be 1/3 cup of liquid or bulk added back to the recipe (egg whites, water, yogurt, fruit puree, etc).

High Fructose Corn Syrup Horrible For ADD/ADHD

Have you seen the commercial where the couple are talking about HFCS? The boyfriend is concerned about eating his girlfriend’s popisicle because it’s got HFCS in it. His girlfriend says, “What? That it’s natural and made from corn? And that in moderation, it’s perfectly fine.” I guess the Corn Refiners Association has a new PR agent. I was totally shocked with disbelief when I first saw this commercial. Un fricking believeable!! How totally misleading is this commerical??? Well first of all, HFCS is in EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!! Go to your kitchen cabinets right now and start reading the back of the labels. If you threw everything out that contained HFCS, you wouldn’t have anything left to eat. And for the items that you do have left, they are either artificial sweeten or have MSG which isn’t any better. HFCS is in sodas, bread, soups (chicken noodle, cream of mushroom, vegtable soup, etc), ketchup, beer, health bars, cereals, popsicles, yogurts, sauces (such as Worcester, spaghetti sauce, etc), puddings, maple syrups, pop tarts, etc… Basically anything that comes in wrapper, is pretty much sweetened with HFCS. Most of these products are marketed to our children in vending machines at our schools.

Second, simple sugars suppress your immune system, causes hormonal imbalance, causes chromium deficiency, interferes with absorption for calcium, magnesium, and B vitamins. If you read my e-book, blogs, or website you are already awaere that ADD/ADHD are highly deficient in their minerals and B vitamins. I could keep going and going with the amount of damage sugar can cause to one’s body. And HFCS is even worse than sugar! Fructose from corn is a natural sugar derived from corn syrup. BUT High Fructose Corn Syrup goes through many more chemical processes (extractions, drying, etc..) than simple fructose. NOTE: It’s in the extra chemical processes that make HFCS so lethal.

And third, let me briefly cover 7 important factors you need to know about HFCS especially if you or your child have ADD/ADHD:

1. Causes obesity because the body doesn’t  process HFCS like it does sugar causing you to crave more food.

2. In the liver, it creates larger amounts of triglycerides, which increases the risk of heart disease.

3. Induces insulin resistance. Carbohydrates cause your body to produce insulin. But HFCS is different from carbs because it doesn’t stimulate insulin production. So instead of burning the calories for energy, your body ends up storing them as fat right from the get go. Without insulin, your appetite has no shut-off mechanism causing you to over eat.

4. Increases a dangerous type of fat in the blood and causes high blood pressure.

5. HFCS is a MAJOR factor in negative behavioral reactions in both children and adults today. It can result in hyperactivity, lack of focus, and fatigue. Just by decreasing HFCS will increase good behavior.

6. When coming off ADD/ADHD medication, it’s extremely important that you limit your sugar intake especially HFCS. This will help reduce blood sugar spikes. Phase 2 and Chromium help with decreasing sugar cravings and balancing blood level. I know for boys it’s not a big deal if they are eating like a horse once off ADD/ADHD medication. However for girls eating uncontrollably is not a bonus.

7. And worst of all, most of commercial HFCS are contamination with mercury when it goes through the process of extraction. FYI, heavy metal toxicity already is a common problem with ADD/ADHD. Products that were tested and contained mercury contaminated HFCS are: Quaker, Hunt’s, Manwich, Hershey’s, Smuckers, Kraft, Nutri-Grain, and Yoplait. Check it out: http://healthobservatory.org/library.cfm?refid=105026

So do you still think HFCS is perfectly safe?? I’ll be honest here and admit that I will sometimes marinate with teriyaki sauce plus we still go out to eat as a family once every 2 weeks. It’s very difficult trying to find products without HFCS but it can be done with a little bit of labor. I feel with us eating 85% organic, high quality supplements, and doing regular cleanses (clay baths, etc.), we do have the upper hand here so a little HFCS here and there is not a burden on Charlie’s body. But if I was first starting out my journey for a natural solution, absolutely NO HFCS! You can do mild moderation of HFCS once the brain and body chemistry is back in harmony. Just keep in mind, HFCS is very additive.

Are all of Biometics supplements for ADD/ADHD Micellized?

Q: ‘I want to know if all the ADHD supplements come in a liquid form?? And are all of the vitamins and supplements Micellized?

Amanda

A: The program for ADD/ADHD is the AM/PM program and if money is not an issue I also recommend that you get Cell Care (contains Super Antioxidants and Co Q 10). Get-go-n and Cal/Mag come in a can and are powdered forms. Either are micelled. However Get-go-n uses 80mg of caffeine which as a vehicle to quickly shoot the B vitamins and Tyrosine into your body. Individuals usually feel it within 15-20mins. The caffeine is a very small dosage and is quickly burned off by the time it arrives at your adrenal glands. All of the other liquid supplements are micelled except Bio Alert because everything in that product is water soluble. Micelled is when you convert the fat soluble to water soluble and break it down to a thousand of its usual size. This is why these vitamins are absorb before they make it to your digestive tract. Cal/Mag uses a citrate form to increase absorption by 3.5 times versus other carbonate forms.

Biometics also uses both plant based and some synthetic vitamins to ensure product quality throughout manufacturing. Basically, when food products are processed for vitamins the quantities of nutrients vary, simply because in nature the content of vitamins in a food varies from one plant to the next. It all depends on soil, water sources, climate, etc. This all means that natural sources of vitamins can result in batches of product varying a degree that is unacceptable - the product could end up with one batch high in B-vitamins and the next batch has almost none. Therefore, synthetic is the optimal choice to ensure each batch is the same. However, it’s not accurate to say that all the vitamins in the Biometics products are synthetic. As a small example, the Vitamin C they use is USP grade Ascorbic Acid that is initially derived from vegetables sources and then partially synthesized. By denoting “folate” in their products versus ”folic acid” means that they use the natural form of folic acid- folate is the type found naturally in foods, while folic acid is the synthetic type. Biometics vitamin E is the natural vitamin, and comes from soybeans (denoted by “d-alpha tocopherol” versus “dl-” on the label). The calcium they use comes from limestone or salt mines. Biometics Melatonin (Bio Nite) is synthetic not only for product quality but because it is vegetarian. Natural sources of melatonin comes from pig’ brains.

If Biometics are the liquid supplements that you decide to go with for you or your child please contact Rae Ann Haynes. Her number is (850)650-8147 H and (850)259-4887 Cell. Her e-mail is hayneskr@cox.net I’m verrry adamant that you let Rae Ann get you started. Biometics is extremely powerful offering over 95% absorption within 15-30mins. Because of this you need to be careful when administering plus all ADD/ADHD are highly deficient in the B vitamins and minerals, which means once they work their way up to a full serving they will need mega dosages of Get-Go-N and Cal/Mag…..sometimes even Bio Alert. There is a lot of adjusting of the serving size until you find the proper amount for your body. So please please do not do this alone. Rae Ann also works with Frankie Pulley. Both know the difficulties of having a child with ADD/ADHD. Rae Ann son has ADD and is medication free. She has helped many adults and children with ADD/ADHD over the last 3 years. Frankie is her mentor and he has been helping families with ADD/ADHD for over 14 years. His son who once was on ADHD medication is now medication free. They are dynamitic together and their guidance will greatly benefit you. This is why I put them as contacts on my website. I consider them to be the best in the company when dealing with ADD/ADHD. They will both be able to answer many of your questions. Their follow up is consistent and always by phone. It’s not very often you find people who consult for free so please take advantage of their expertise.

How Do I get My Son Who Has ADHD To Eat Vegetables? He Hates Them!

Q: I am having a hard time trying to get my son to eat vegetables. I’ve tried cooking broccoli and topping it with cheese, but he still will not eat them. He doesn’t like to eat vegetables or salads and I’m worn out everyday trying to coax him into eating them. However, he doesn’t fight me to eat fruit if I peel and cut it up for him. Do you have any suggestions to help with my situation? I understand how important it is for ADHD to eat organic vegetables but he simply won’t eat them.

Cindy

A: I’m so excited to get this question! For Christmas I got a Vitamix (Blender/food processor) and Excalibur (Dehydrator). I’m not really a fan of juicers because I believe it’s equally important to not only drink the juice you extract from the juicer but you should eat the pulp(skin) as well. That can be kinda of gross to eat  especially for kids if ya know what I mean. The pulp contains all the fiber and since ADD/ADHD children are too young for colon cleanses, it’s vital that they get the proper amount of fiber in their diet each day. Remember ADD/ADHD DO NOT detoxify well so it’s important that they get fiber each day to help them have regular bowel movement (1-3 times a day)!!!This means they need to EAT fruits and vegetables and not juice them.

The Vitamix is the MOST wonderful durable machine of all time!!!!!!! The blades are so powerful that you can drop fruits, veggies, starches, etc…. and it will completely puree it with no chucks of food. You can make healthy soy fruit ice creams, hot soups (yes, the blades if you run them more than 4 mins will make the soup hot), bread (we now make our own flour b/c of this machine), and not to mention tons of recipes for your dehydrator such as fruit roll ups, energy bars, crackers, etc…. I have talk to customers who have had this machine for over 15 years that still use it everyday. They all rave about how durable it still is, how easy it is to use everyday, and how simple it is to clean. Children will have an easier time drinking these vegetable cocktails rather than eating all of the different types of veggies they need each day. Also keep in mind, fruit should only make up 15% of your diet each day and no more than that!! Fruit is high in sugars. Even though it’s a good sugar (time released) ADD/ADHD already have problems with improper digestion due to food allergies and are highly mineral deficit (magnesium/calcium) causing an overgrowth of yeast. Sugar feeds disease, yeast, fungi, and mold. Your diet must have 60% of veggies each day. You also want color as well, such as bell peppers, onions, spinach, squash, etc….. and not just green veggies. BTW: The darker the greens the better!

The dehydrator cooks food at low temperatures so the enzymes of fruits and veggies are not compromised. So many times veggies are over cooked leaving no vital nutrients left. So basically the broccoli that you cooked for your son didn’t have any nutrients in it once you cooked them. At this point the only purpose to eat the broccoli is for the fiber. And stay away from milk (cheese you put on top of the broccoli), verry bad for ADHD!

I have made Charlie apple, sweet potatoes, zucchini, cucumber, and pineapple chips to take to school and munch on his way to his basketball games. This week I made him every flavor of fruit roll ups you can imagine. I haven’t tried to make the energy bars or boco burgers yet but I’m working on it.

These two machines are pricey but are the Cadillac of their breed and will last you a LIFE TIME. Look at this as an investment that will not only benefit your child but your entire family. Charlie told me the day after I got my Vitamix and Excalibur that he felt that theses were gifts for him. He loves to operate this machine and has made us ice cream everyday. He even makes it for his friends when they come over. He loves it!

Click on the links below.

Vitamix: http://www.vita-mix.com/ Check out all the videos for the Vitamix! This machine is a life savior for ADD/ADHD children and adult!

Excalibur: http://www.excaliburdehydrator.com/ If you desire healthy snacks than a dehydrator is the way to go! If you purchase this product, you should also get “Preserve it Naturally” Third Edition book, the Paraflex sheets (for the fruit roll ups), and the Pre-treatment (Sodium Bifsufite).

Use Tongue Diagnosis For Guidance With ADD/ADHD

We’ve always been big fans of traditional Chinese medicine. The one thing I took away from that experience was tongue diagnosis. Did you know that your tongue is literally a blue print of all of your organs? We do not do Chinese herbs anymore but we still do acupuncture. Chinese herbs and acupuncture is about the “chi” or “Qi” or basically the flow of energy and the balance of your body’s proper temperature that are used to heal your body. Instead of giving your body drugs, Chinese medicine tries to stimulate your body so it will regain the power to produce what is lacking or at least get it back on track. Anyway, we loved going down this holistic path but like I mention in my other Blog it wasn’t enough to get Charlie off is ADD/ADHD medication. However, my husband and I achieved incredible health results while we were participating with Charlie for this particular natural remedy. Anyway, I have become obsessed with diagnosing our tongues. If you go to this website and answer the questions it will give you an idea of tongue diagnose: http://beyondwellbeing.com/herbs/tongue-diagnosis.shtml This site is one of the few sites I have found on the web today that simply explains tongue diagnosis and even has pictures so you will be able to compare your tongue. It’s not quite as detail as my books but it’ll give you a general idea. Our tongues never lie unless you eat colored candy or brush your tongueA healthy tongue (which means healthy body) NEVER needs to be scraped or brushed in the morning. So check it out. I have like 2 books on tongue diagnose. I’m no master but once you have some kind of an idea for tongue diagnosis, you will always use it for guidance on your journey of natural remedies with ADD/ADHD. It’s mind blowing what an expert in Tongue Diagnosis will be able to tell you just from looking at your tongue. AMAZING, I tell you!!! I would go to my appointments with Charlie and after seconds of looking at my tongue, my therapist would be like, “Your cycle came early this month, huh?” or “Lay off the bad food, your liver is stagnate.” or “You’ve been getting headaches, huh?” or “Your candida is out of control.” The first time my husband went in for his appointment, he was told that he had poor circulation and kidneys. I was just so amazed by him. BUT you must make sure you find an expert that is licensed in this field. Trust me, it does make a difference.

Benefits of Calcium/Magnesium for ADD/ADHD

Okay for me, Cal/Mag is one of the best products on the Biometics product line for ADD/ADHD. Calcium is one of the MOST IMPORTANT minerals for your body and 80% of Americas are deficient in both Calcium and Magnesium (which is where most health problems stem from) especially ADD/ADHD. You must keep in mind that ADHD are HIGHLY deficient in Cal/Mag and needs almost 2 servings daily until their body has regain balance. Plus when magnesium (known as the anti-stress mineral) is combined with calcium, it works as a natural tranquilizer. Without magnesium you would not be able to hold the calcium in your body no matter how much your daily calcium intake.

So let’s go over the benefits of Magnesium and Calcium and how it affects ADD/ADHD:

Magnesium helps fight depression, boost energy, helps burn fat, prevents heart attacks, maintains good cholesterol levels, aid indigestion, combats PMS symptoms,  helps prevent premature labor, and keeps teeth strong and healthy.

Calcium’s MajorRoles:

1. Stored in the bones. This is very important for ages of children from 9-19yrs (who need 1300mg of calcium), lactating mothers (1500mg), and anyone over 50yrs (1300-1500mg)

2. It is responsible for all muscle contractions in your body including your heart! This product is great for Restless leg Syndrome, menstrual cycle, migraines, athletes, and has a relaxing and calming effect.

3. It circulates in your blood stream and does MANY benefits:   a. Helps your Metabolism (dictates how much weight your body stores or burns off)  b. Regulates your hormones (especially Menopause!)

  c. Helps with the elasticity of your arteries (Blood Pressure)

  d. Aids with digestion enzyme activity (helps your body break down food-important for ADHD)

  e. Helps your body absorb B12 properly (important for ADD/ADHD)

  f. Helps with neurotransmitter release (which is important for ADD/ADHD and also helps calm ADHD with their hyperactivity)

  g. Blood Coagulation (needed in many phases for blood clotting)

  h. Helps Nerve impulses (important for ADD/ADHD)

  i. Helps neutralize an Acidic pH (important for ADD/ADHD) Acidic pH causes fungus, mold, parasites, bad bacteria (Candida), and viral infections that all thrive in your body due to lack of oxygen.  Basically your body becomes a play ground for diseases especially cancer!

99% of your Calcium is stored in your bones which leaves 1% to be used in your blood stream and muscles. When you are calcium deficient your body will have to pull the it from your bones and muscles so it can utilize it in your blood stream to neutralize acid. Remember that the next time you decide to give a child with ADD/ADHD sodas, junk foods, fried food, sugary food, etc that you are creating an acidic pH in their body.

FYI: Calcium citrate absorbs 2.5 times faster than Carbonate. Calcium Carbonate is more absorbable than most other types of Calcium, and if the Citrate form is not available, the Carbonate form is fine. However, there are some types of Calcium supplements that are not recommended at all:  those that have bone meal, oyster shell, or dolomite as their source of Calcium. Regardless of how inexpensive they may be, these sources of Calcium are not good choices because they may contain high levels of lead.

BIOMETICS’ CAL/MAG 100 contains 100% of the US Daily Values of Calcium, and  50% of Vitamin D. When added to water, the Calcium in CAL/MAG 100 undergoes a carbonation reaction, which converts Calcium Carbonate to Calcium Citrate, the most absorbable form of calcium,  to enhance skeletal and other body systems. *

Aspartame Bad For ADD/ADHD, Lowers Serotonin Levels

As I have mentioned many times before and will continue to do so; it’s important for ADD/ADHD to avoid all artificial sweeteners, flavors, and colors. So I’m gonna mention some of the harmful effects of aspartame. Did you know when aspartame is paired with carbohydrates it causes your brain to slow down its production of serotonin which most ADD/ADHD, depression, and bi polar already have low levels.

Did you know that the FDA has received more complaints about aspartame than any other ingredient to date? Aspartame not only effects ADD/ADHD but it has been linked to arthritis, birth defects, lupus, diabetes, seizures, depression, Alzheimer’s, fibromyalgia, and many more. Aspartame is a carcinogenic, that’s means it can cause cancer. And it’s totally toxic. How? Well when the methyl alcohol which is a component of aspartame, enters the body, it turns into Formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a deadly neurotoxin. Anytime you see the word “neurotoxin” that means this is SUPER BAD for ADD/ADHD because they already have problems with lack of neurotransmitters. The last thing they need is a toxic agent that destroys or damages the neurons they do have left.

O and for you adult ADD/ADHD who like drinking sugar free drinks loaded in aspartame because you think regular sugar drinks make you fat, just know aspartame is highly acidic. What does that mean to you? Acidic foods and drinks equal fat cells. When your body is overloaded with acidic foods and drinks, it has to convert the acid into fat cells then stores it to protect your organs from this acidic damage. Your body will also pull calcium from your blood stream in order to neutralize the acid. And if there isn’t enough calcium in your bloodstream, it’ll pull it from your muscles, and it there is not enough calcium there, your body will pull it from your bones to neutralize all the acid in you stomach. The long term effect of this results in acid reflux, heart burn, osteoporosis, bone spurs, kidney spurs, acne, Oh and lots of mosquitoes bites (they love people who are acidic). BTW, ADD/ADHD are already highly deficient in calcium and magneisum.

FYI, Aspartame is in NutraSweet, Equal, almost all sugar free gums, sodas, and energy drinks. Bottom line: Don’t buy anything that’s Sugar Free. It’s worth the 3 seconds to read the label. Stick with Fructose a natural slow releasing sugar.

Folic Acid helps with Memory

So how does Folic Acid affect ADD/ADHD? Well, like many of the B vitamins, Folic Acid affects mental function. It helps serotonin production (very important for ADD/ADHD-it’s the “mood” neurotransmitter) by elevating mood and can even act as a mild antidepressant. However, it takes extremely large dosesup to 50 mg — to get results. Plus a certain amount of memory loss seems to go along with age and this could be slowed by taking folic acid supplements, because it lowers levels of homocysteine. Although folic acid is found naturally in legumes, carrots, artichokes, cantaloupe, avocados, apricots, beans, lentils, soybeans, garbonzos, barley, whole wheat, dark green leafy vegetables, and in some cereal grains, taking a multivitamin or a B-complex vitamin is the best way to ensure you get enough Folic Acid each day. It’s a water soluble vitamin so the body does not store what it doesn’t use. The US Daily Value is 400mcg per day for most individuals, and 800mcg for women who are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. Remember, the US Daily Allowance is the mininum amount an idividual needs to take daily. Biometics Bio Fuel and Get-Go-N both contain 400mcg of Folic Acid.

TIP: When you look at high quality multi-vitamin supplements, make sure you select a product that list folate versus folic acid. Folate means that it is a natural form of Folic Acid. If it says Folic acid on the label this means it is the synthetic type.
