Should You Only Test For Heavy Metals With ADD & Food Allergies With ADHD?
11. May 2009 by Shirley.
Q: I read one of your old blogs that mentioned ADD should be tested for heavy metals and ADHD for food allergies. Does that mean I shouldn’t have my daughter tested for food allergies too?
Taylor
A: Too many times children who DO NOT have ADD/ADHD but mimic those symptoms are quickly put on medication because parents are told that this is their only option. The reason I wrote ADD-heavy metals and ADHD-food allergies are because they both mimic ADD/ADHD symptoms. BUT that’s not to say that food allergies do not mimic ADD or heavy metals mimic ADHD symptoms. In my personal experience I have found it more common the other way around. For a child that actually DOES have ADD/ADHD, then food allergies, yeast overgrowth, heavy metals toxicity, deficiency in DHA, etc will only compound their problem. You will have to regain a balance with their body and brain chemistry by removing toxins (cleanses, eating organic, pulling artificial crap from diet) and maximizing nutrients (HIGH quality supplements).
If it’s food allergies, your child will make a quick recovery (within a week). If it’s heavy metals, well that could take much longer (6-12 mons or more). I suggest taking a natural chelator (chlorella or zeolites) and also clay baths for maximum results. I have listed my recommendation on my website. Also keep in mind that yeast overgrowth (which is probably the #1 mimicker of ADD/ADHD) can be a side effect of both food allergies and heavy metal build up. So you will need to do a cleanse for that too.
In my opinion, take both tests!
Enthusiastically yours,
