How Does Far Infrared Sauna Benefit ADD/ADHD?
If you have been following my blogs or read my website and e-book, then you will have heard me say this many of times, “ADD/ADHD do not detox well.” My favorite two forms of detox through the skin are bentonite clay baths and far infrared saunas. Your skin, known as the “Third kidney” is your largest eliminator of toxins. Certain toxins and pesticides can leave your body ONLY through sweat glands. Approximately 99 percent of perspiration is water; the remaining 1 percent is toxic waste!
If money wasn’t an issue, I’d choose infrared sauna every time! Don’t get me wrong……I LOVE clay baths…..HUGE FAN….and we have benefited greatly from this type of detox. In fact we still take clay baths from time to time. For a big plastic tub of bentonite clay (15 baths per tub) will run you about $45-65. However, one visit to the spa for a 30 min sitting in an infrared sauna will run anywhere from $30-40 per visit. Some spas let you purchase a package deal (usually from $200-300) where now each visit is only $25. My husband went on eBay and purchased a 4 person sauna red cedar far infrared ceramic corner unit for ONLY $1500 (includes shipping and warranty too). Most sites sold this type of sauna for $3000-5000. This purchase is like the Vitamix for me. It’s an investment that will last you decades. EVERY DAY we use this sauna. My husband and I sit in it once to twice a day. Charlie sits in it 3-4 times a week. If he eats bad when he spends the night with his friends, he’ll sits in the sauna to purge out the toxins. Plus this type of detox gives us the upper hand with Charlie’s ADHD.
Difference between Traditional Sauna and Far Infrared Sauna
Traditional sauna heats up the air making it humid and difficult to breath which results in you feeling over heated. This humidity causes condensation to form on your skin limiting the amount of toxins your body can expel.
Infrared Sauna only heats you up..not the air. This sauna is 100% therapeutic. When your body is penetrated with the far infrared waves, it can reach up to 1.5-3 inches of depth into the body. That means it will penetrate deep down in your muscular tissues and even into your internal organs.
What You Need To Know:
1. Fat (stores toxins) becomes water soluble at 110 F. This deep penetration from the rays of a far infrared sauna melts away toxins and acids that are released into your blood stream and therefore excreted out through your skin. Since most ADD/ADHD have a toxic build up of heavy metals, prescription ADD/ADHD drugs, and many more chemicals from insecticides/preservatives,etc, a far infrared sauna will help reduce this toxic burden and stimulate the healing process in their body.
2. Infrared sauna will increase secretion of endorphins (neurotransmitters) which many ADD/ADHD are deficient. Other techniques that stimulate endorphin secretion are acupuncture, mediation, and massage therapy.
3. Infrared saunas actually have the EXACT same kind of light that the sun does! This means that you get all the benefits of sunlight minus the harmful UV rays. It will help you create vitamin D for your body.
Enthusiastically yours,
Shirley Highers
